WHITEHAVEN Golf Club will be welcoming boxer Joe Calzaghe to town for a special night.

The legendary Welsh boxer retired back in 2009 and is one of the few world champions who finished his career undefeated with a remarkable record of 46 wins out of 46 fights, also racking up 32 wins by knockout.

Before Calzaghe retired in 2007, he also claimed the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, where he received 28 per cent of the votes.

In 1997, he won the World Boxing Organization Super Middleweight Championship by defeating legend Chris Eubank. It would be a title he would hold for more than ten years after defending it 21 times.

In addition to this, in his 22 world title fights he would win all of them, including 11 knockout wins. Calzaghe was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.

His appearance at the golf club on on Thursday, September 15 (7.30pm) won’t just highlight his boxing career. The night will run through his appearances on Strictly Come Dancing , where he partnered up with Russian professional Kristina Rihanoff and his life after retiring from sport.

As well as Calzaghe being in attendance, comedian Greg Cook and MC Lebbon will be there to entertain, whilst there will also be a sports collectors auction, making for a fun evening for all the family.
