THE cycling boom in Cleator Moor has been given a boost with a new cycle showroom being granted planning permission.

Copeland Council approved Ainfield Cycles’ plans to build the facility on Jacktrees Road.

Raymond Agnew, owner-partner at the shop, said that the sport has grown over the last 10 years and people are using a wider range of bikes to suit.

The shop, which was established in 1979, expanded in 2005 to create a workshop and an office facility.

Mr Agnew added: “This has helped us enormously with the increase in cycle repairs, servicing and the general day-to-day running of the shop.

“We now feel the time is right to invest in a new cycle showroom increasing the display area and workshop area with ample free parking, in keeping up to date with the cycle industry for today’s cyclists, improving and safeguarding the future of Ainfield Cycles for many years to come.”

Cleator Moor has attracted a lot of attention in the cycling world. West Coast Challenge Events organisor, Jo Wear, has been running more sporting events in the area because of the access to the civic hall and the surrounding countryside.
