ARLECDON School pupils headed off for their holidays following an emotional leavers and awards assembly.

The Year 6 leavers sang songs and delivered speeches before receiving personalised certificates and Parker pens as leaving gifts. Their teacher and guitarist, Jamine Jolliffe, also sang a self-penned tribute to them.

A mathlete award was handed to Year 4 pupil, Alfie Chambers, with a rapid award given to Year 2, Ellie May Clark.

The Headteacher’s Award was presented to Maddy Snell for her high-profile campaign to save maternity services at the West Cumberland Hospital which saw her receive a letter from the Prime Minister.

Headteacher Wendy Figes said: ‘It has been another amazing year for Arlecdon School. We have raised thousands of pounds for charity, been on lots of trips and visits, our academic results are very good and we are proud that every one of our students has embraced opportunities given to them. At Arlecdon Primary we seek to be the best and develop the whole child, the content of our leavers speeches, shows that our students recognise that they are beacons and ambassadors for our school. We are so very proud of them.’’
