Whitehaven's At The Stadium music festival has been called off two weeks before it was due to take place.

The two-day festival was due to take place at Cumbria Sports Academy, Hensingham, on May 13 and 14, headlined by Maximo Park and The Ordinary Boys.

However, organisers The Mighty Boof this afternoon announced that the gig will not go ahead as planned, although hopes are high that it can be rescheduled for later in the year.

Danny Maudling, of the Mighty Boof, has declined to reveal the specific reasons for the postponment, other than saying it is due to "a number of problems".

He said: "This is an announcement I hate making, but it's a necessary one.

"We have been working hard for the last few weeks in order to try and resolve these problems, but unfortunately time is not on our side.

"We will be working hard to come back with new dates very soon and all tickets purchased remain valid."

Other names lined up for the event were The Sherlocks, Louis Berry, 1990s band Hurricane No1 and Model Aeroplanes.

This is England actor Thomas Turgoose was due to play a DJ set.

Mr Maudling added: "All the others at the stadium, including Jolan's series of shows starting on May 6, will be going ahead as planned."

The festival has become a highlight in the local music calendar since its inception.

Beginning life as a one-day event in 2011 headlined by The Futureheads, the event has expanded annually since and has been headlined by bands including The View, The Enemy and Reverend and the Makers.

It has been due to return in this year after taking a year's break in 2015.
