AN award-winning husband and wife duo bring their celebrated blend of blues and country to West Cumbria this weekend.

The Red Dirt Skinners will stop off in Egremont as part of their UK tour, playing at the Florence Arts Centre on Sunday.

In 2013, the pair became the first band in history to succeed at both the British Blues and the British Country Music awards, while their eclectic sound also draws influence from folk, jazz and Americana.

Comfortably blending almost telepathic harmonies with the unique instrumentation of soprano saxophone and acoustic guitar, they have built a reputation as one of Britain's most distinctive live acts.

Sarah Skinner's classical training in clarinet and saxophone combined with Rob’s extensive music theory knowledge makes The Red Dirt Skinners almost unique in their sound and their songwriting.

Following a burglary at their home in 2012, which saw the loss of all of their saved material, songs and ideas, they channelled the despair into their next album, Home Sweet Home, which received universal praise from critics and laid the foundations for their success ever since.

Two further albums have followed - 2013's Sinking the Mary Rose and this year’s Behind the Wheel - and The Red Dirt Skinners have recently returned from their second hugely successful tour of Canada. This Cumbrian leg of the tour will be their final performance of the year before returning to North America in 2017.

The concert on Sunday December 4 starts at 7.30pm, and tickets are available in advance from the Florence Arts Centre.
