THIS surprise baby visitor turned up at Coulderton Beach, near Nethertown on Friday and local seaside residents feared it may have been washed up by the tide and become stranded.

The grey seal pup was alert and inquisitive and a quick call to the animal welfare people brought the advice to simply leave it alone and it would probably be carried back out to sea when the tide came in.

David Wilkinson and a neighbour took a tarpaulin down to help the seal on its way but the animal energetically wiggled off out into the Irish Sea several hours later.
