Wasdale Show called off

Wasdale Show has had to be cancelled due to bad weather for the first time ever.
The traditional Wasdale Head Shepherds' Meet was due to take place today (Saturday) but organisers have had to call it off. Show secretary, David Smith said they had "very reluctantly" had to make the decision to cancel.
"The weather has beaten us," he said. "We had got the tents up but you have to be realistic, the field is running in water," he said.
The show was cancelled in 2001 and 2002 due to foot and mouth and a restricted event without livestock was held last year, also as a result of foot and mouth. But this is the first time in the show's long history - it was established more than 60 years ago - that the weather has been so bad that it could not take place.
