Music night set to raise vital funding in memory of Lisa

A BIG music night in memory of Egremont teenager, Lisa Bell, is being held this Saturday.
For One Night Only – Take 2 will feature 11 bands and musicians as well as other special guests.
They are all joining together to help raise money for The Meningitis Research Foundation.
Lisa was a pupil at Wyndham School when she died of meningitis in 2006, aged 16.
Since then, her family and friends have set about raising funds for research into the disease as a tribute to Lisa.
So far they have raised over £23,000 locally and her parents, Tony and Pauline Bell, of Fell View Drive, have been blown away by the support they have received.
“The support has been unbelievable,” said Tony.
Saturday’s event starts at 4pm, in the Falcon Club, Egremont, and will feature the legendary Colin Nichol, MT Arms, Mazzoni, Shore, Steph Wars, Quarry, John & Wayne, Adam Amor, Gavin McKew, Andrew Winter and Willy Bazooka & The Naughty Diplomats.
It promises to be a great atmosphere, with a previous similar event attracting all age groups.
There have been many fundraising events held recently in Lisa’s memory, including school friends raising over £1,000 by selling sweets at school, skydives and a C2C bike ride.
Sellafield has also made it their charity of the year, donating £2,008; £100 was donated from the recent Egremont Iron Ore motorbike rally and Barclays Bank have been very supportive.
Pauline and Tony also take information packs and cards including advice on what symptoms to look out for in order to help raise awareness about meningitis.
“We take this information out to hopefully stop this happening to other people,” said Pauline.
She said trials into Meningitis B, which is what Lisa died of, were currently ongoing at Manchester University and were producing the best results that they have ever had.
Lisa’s memory also lived on at Wyndham School in the Lisa Bell Achievement Award to one girl and one boy for all-round achievement, as well as awards in netball and badminton.
Tickets for the fundraising night are £6, telephone 01946 820250/07877 364282 for further information.
