STEPPING OUT: These local ladies are about to embark on a marathon charity walk along the whole length of Hadrian’s Wall in aid of the stroke unit at the West Cumberland Hospital. The intrepid three – from the right, Nora Smith, Mary Shepherd and Pam Bonning – have been striding along the pathways around the western lakes in preparation for their walk, which starts on May 23 and will take them seven days to complete. They hope to raise £1,000 for the unit. Nora said: "We have £500 raised so far, but are hoping to double that as there are still sponsor forms out in the community". Readers can make pledges to Nora at Walkmill Court on 01946 61522.
