YOUNGSTERS from Lowca School were invited to get the low-down on the work of their local Tesco.

Pupils from Lowca Primary school toured Tesco in Whitehaven taking a look at how a supermarket store runs . Here they saw the fresh fish counter with Bridie Wood who showed them the many kinds of fish on sale and tasted some prawns.

The pupils popped along to the Whitehaven store to see how staff make bread, talk about the healthy benefits of fruit and vegetables, learn about the different fresh fish on offer, and try their hand on the tills.

Alison Hogg, charity co-ordinator at the store, said: “Our aim is to become more involved in the community.

“Inviting schools to look around and see what we do is one way and we are also happy to encourage local charities to fundraise here instore.’’

Any schools or small charities interested in Tesco’s community schemes should contact Alison on 852407.
