£1,000 bonus for Sellafield workers

SELLAFIELD Ltd’s 10,000 workers have been given a pre-Christmas £1,000 pay treat.
It is one part of the annual bonus recognising good performances across a range of activities on the nuclear site. It also recognises £700 million worth of efficiencies – a record for the site.
Half of last year’s similar Christmas bonus came through Aceman, an employee participation scheme. This time it has all been paid out through success against pre-agreed targets.
If workers do even better in the next four months there is the potential for them to collect a £3,000 bonus for the financial year as a whole.
Staff have been paid an extra £1,038 in their December salaries, pro-rata for part-timers.
It is the level of efficiencies which has enabled Sellafield Ltd to take on 500 new jobs. Most of them are expected to be filled by April as applications come in thick and fast.
Spokesman Karl Connor said: “We hope shops and businesses in West Cumbria will feel the benefit of this extra payment to staff. It’s a recognition of a job well done and a successful 2012. We look forward to continued improvement in 2013.”

As for why it's news - do the maths! 10,000 workers with ã1000 each is a ã10 million pound injection of cash into the economy - most of that going into W CumbriaErmmm not quite given the tax man will grab up to 40 % of this...but still good news for the W Cumbrian economy assuming it isn't spent on online purchases such as Amazon and the likes.Pity also our Doctors and nursing staff who actually save lives as opposed to pushing bits of paper around do not receive bonuses of this sort...kind of sums the country up I guess.View all 18 comments on this article

Chris, I don't watch local sport and don't enjoy the harbour, does that make me a negative person ? Did you get the £1,000 bonus ? and lastly, where's your surname ? Don't preach a practise you don't undertake, it's called hypocritical behaviour.
