DELIGHTED: Mark Slater, the new manager of the Booths store in Windermere

Adam Slater has returned to Booths in Windermere eight years after he first worked there as an assistant manager.

In the time since Mr Slater last worked in Windermere he has managed the company’s stores in Chorley, Torrisholme, Settle and Scotforth in Lancaster and has worked for the family-run retailer for 16 years.

But the new boss is expecting different trading conditions compared with other stores he has managed because of Windermere’s tourist population.

He said: “There is a real mix of clientele in Windermere. The one thing that I have noticed immediately is the diverse nature of the Windermere customer. It brings home just how popular the Lakes are around the world. We even have people taking photos in the store.

“Being in a tourist destination means we are busy during the times of year where other stores may go quieter. When people are on their holidays, they often want to treat themselves and that’s where we come into our own, offering a fantastic range of food and drink.

“Products that are from all parts of the world sit alongside ones which are locally-sourced, very much in the way our customers do.” Mr Slater takes over running the Windermere store from Richard Sykes.

He is taking charge of the new Booths store in Penrith, which is set to open next month.

Mr Slater said: “I’m really pleased to be back here in Windermere as manager. It is a very successful store which has a lovely atmosphere and a real buzz about it. And to top it off it is in a beautiful part of the world.”
