The marriage of Renault's van expertise and Nissan's truck know-how is to continue with them creating a light commercial vehicle business unit.

Renault and Nissan have worked together in producing both vans and trucks over the last several years. The Unit will continue this and look to maximize the cross-development and cross-manufacturing between the two well respected manufacturers.

One example of the work done so far is the Nissan NV300 van which is built on the Renault Trafic platform. And the marriage of the Renault Alaskan pickup which is constructed on the platform of the Nissan Navara.

"The combination of Renault, Nissan and the early collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors in a single Alliance LCV Business Unit will boost sales and deliver greater synergies," Alliance Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn said. He hopes to expand their market leadership in both current and new, high-growth markets. With each company's core products and market knowledge being utilized, they will be more adept at meeting customer needs.

The new Renault-Nissan LCV Business Unit will also handle Nissan's body-on-frame SUVs, including the Nissan Armada and Nissan Patrol.
