A Cumbrian based internet marketing expert has joined the line-up of the News & Star’s social media conference to offer local businesses a helping hand in finding new customers.

Paul Teague worked as a journalist for 20 years before branching out into internet marketing where he has worked with entrepreneurs who have been making more than £100,000 a month online.

His expertise in online marketing and the business opportunities offered by Facebook are much in demand and he recently spoke at major social media conference in London.

Now he’s lending his support to the News & Star’s social media half day conference at Tullie House on March 25.

Mr Teague, who lives in Carlisle, will give a live demonstration showing how easily Cumbrian businesses can use Facebook and other social media to raise their profile and win new businesses.

“There are some basic principles that apply no matter what size your business,” he said. “The first thing I want to tell people about social media is that it’s free and every business should have a presence on there because increasingly a business will be defined by its digital footprint.

“At the conference I will show how much easier it has become to get your business online. You can set yourself up on Facebook in five minutes.

At the conference Mr Teague will also be highlighting some of the changes to Facebook which allow businesses more flexibility.

The social media conference will include an overview of social media with Cumbrian digital consultant Andrew Armitage, practical tips on making the most from social media with Cumbrian Newspaper’s digital strategy manager Nick Turner and a look at the legal dos and don’ts surrounding social media with Aaron Lyons of Burnetts Solicitors

There will be also the chance to network with other “digital champions” – businesses who have already made a success of social media.

Laptops will be available so provide practical advice. The half day conference is being organised by the News & Star in association with Armstrong Watson.

Details at www.newsandstar.co.uk/socialmedia or email Nick Turner on nturner@cnmedia.co.uk.

Tickets for the half day conference cost £35 each. You can either buy the tickets http://tinyurl.com/6zradec or call 01228 612645.

Every business attending will be given a free month-long advertising promotion on the News & Star website which attracts more than 200,000 unique users a month.
