Man charged with robberies at Cumbrian betting shops

A man has appeared in court after being charged with robbery.
Christopher Appleby Hardy, 23, of Lonsdale Court, Whitehaven, was charged with two counts of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon following incidents at the Coral and William Hill bookmakers in Whitehaven last Thursday.
He appeared before West Allerdale Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody.
He is due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on September 3.
