SIR – Our annual Golden Sands Polar Bear Club charity dip in the sea was once a again a great success. We would like to thank the 100 people who went into the sea and the 400-plus crowd who cheered us on.
Thanks also to Paul Pater and the coastguard who every year strive to keep us safe; Lyn Sloan, Hazel and Joe Block for doing the disclaimers; TV star Will Ash who set the dip off; rugby league star Kyle Amor and the many Whitehaven rugby league players who went in.
Our thanks also to Sharon and Denvir from the Wellington café and bistro for their hospitality, free soup and tea for the dippers
The Whitehaven Brass Band were in attendance and the Moky dancers got us all warmed up before the event. To everybody else I’ve missed, a big thank you
Also Thorp fundraising group would like to thank the Marchon Club for Boxing Day afternoon and thanks to all the bands that played: Black Wolf Run, Legion, Faction, Ruff Cuts, Missarioty, MT Arms, the door men, the bar staff, and Steve Harper and Bootsy for doing the sound. We made £1,250 for charity, that will go to a lot of local worthy causes.
