Digging deep to find more about home
Published at 11:11, Thursday, 16 February 2012
SIR – I’m writing to you regarding a bricklayer’s silver trowel with a bone handle which has been engraved with wording.
My uncle had this given to him many years ago before he died and I have just come across it again.
The inscription reads: “Presented to Frank Holt ESQ, Liverpool, On the occasion of his laying the Foundation stone of the Aged Miners Homes, Whitehaven, October 1925.”
Could your readers tell me any details of this home – and is it still standing?
