Big Society do, big thank you

SIR – I am writing to ask if you would print this letter in your newspaper to say a big thank you for all those who helped at the Sneckyeat Fun Day on June 6.
We are a small estate of 88 properties which are a mix of social/ rented/ general needs homes for families and single people, properties owner-occupied under the right-to-buy and sheltered accommodation for the elderly and disabled.
The event had the aim of bringing all the community together, particularly young and old, and was also a celebration for the Jubilee and was very successful in this aim.
We had competitions, crafts, face painting, games, bouncy castles, stalls and refreshments. The event was free to residents and their families.
A big thanks goes to the Neighbourhood Forum, police, Two Castles Housing Association, Coun Garrity and Coun Hawkins, Jamie Reed MP, the junior PCSOs, Howgill Centre, fire service, First Responders, Whitehaven Brass Band, AR Bouncy Castles, Burger Express and Hartley’s, along with all our volunteers for all their help with this event.
One visitor commented that the “Big Society” was already happening on our estate, and it certainly was the case that day.
Mrs Joan SHAKESPEARE
Secretary, Sneckyeat Residents’ Association
