Attack is sign of our times

SIR – I am writing in disgust at the mindless vandalism of the sign coming into Whitehaven after I received numerous phone calls complaining that the sign had again been targeted.
To those who have done this, be under no illusion the public are disgusted with your behaviour. The previous time we managed to re-use the lettering, but this time the coat-of-arms (which was found at Parton) and the lettering are damaged, and there was little hope of replacement due to lack of funds.
The sign was created through sponsorship and many people worked hard to secure the funding in the first place. I will not go back to them a second time due to a few mindless idiots.
But all is not lost. First Image Sign Manufacturing have stepped into the breach and agreed to replace the signage at no extra cost. Words fail me sometimes and I want to thank Debbie and all at First Image on behalf of the people of Whitehaven. I can only hope that this is the last time their generosity is needed.
