Lakeside hotel plans to double in size

A lakeside hotel is aiming for four-star status under ambitious new plans which will see it almost double in size.
Under the proposals, The Inn on the Lake at Glenridding will be extended across three storeys with 32 extra bedrooms, a function suite, pool and orangery.
The project will bring 30 new jobs to the area.
The scheme designed to turn the Inn into a modern destination hotel has been approved by Lake District planners.
Hotel owner Charles Graves is said to be delighted that the scheme for the hotel, on the shores of Ullswater, had been given the go-ahead amid opposition from Patterdale parish council, residents and businesses in the area.
Opponents were concerned that the contemporary zinc roof and polished stone features would have a detrimental impact on the village.
But the plan brought 44 letters of support from people who thought it would benefit Glenridding.
Scheme architect Mick Nash said the hotel would be developed into a modern piece of architecture.
He said: “A lot of thought and energy has gone into creating a destination hotel. Fundamentally we need suites with design appeal with an aim to create a four-star hotel. It would create 30 new jobs.”
