Julie Smith, 25, primary school teacher and Ryan Harrison, 23, hotel administrator, live in Houghton.
HOW THEY MET: Through mutual friends in 2008.
PROPOSAL: On Chinese New Year in 2010 after Julie returned home after studying Chinese for a year in Beijing.
VENUE: St Paul’s Church, Carlisle.
THEME: Chinese.
BRIDE’S OUTFIT: An ivory silk dress with Swarovski crystal detail, Swarovski crystal tiara and veil from Kokoa Bride, Penrith.
GROOMSMEN: The groom’s friend from school Stephen Child was best man and the groom’s brother Scott Harrison and friends Jinl Abraham and Sean Day were ushers.
They wore black formal suits with red silk ties, from Debenhams.
BRIDESMAIDS: The bride’s close friend Anna Bunn was maid of honour.
Bridesmaids were the bride’s friend Kalli Sutton, groom’s sister Lauren Harrison and the bride’s nieces Charlotte and Gracie Giersch.
The older bridesmaids wore tailor-made red Chinese satin dresses imported from Beijing and Gracie wore an ivory dress with red petals in the skirt from Tigerlily at Debenhams.
FLOWERS: The bride carried a bouquet of red roses mixed with berries and the bridesmaids carried bouquets of ivory roses and gerbera, made by a family friend of the bride.
TRANSPORT: A silver Mercedes hired and driven by a friend as a wedding present.
RECEPTION: Roundthorn Country House Hotel, Penrith for 85 guests and an evening reception for 101 guests.
TABLE SETTINGS: Tables were named after retro sweets with corresponding jars of sweets on each table.
FAVOURS: Red Chinese boxes filled with sweets for the women and fortune cookies for the men.
CAKE: A four-tier cake of fruit, chocolate and lemon cake made by the bride.
FIRST DANCE: Everything, Michael Buble, performed by singer John Penn.
ENTERTAINMENT: Singer John Penn, Carlisle and disco.
HONEYMOON: Halkidiki, Greece.
