Jenny Askew, 33, cake designer and Derek Gibson, 35, maintenance engineer and originally from Carlisle, live in Staffordshire
HOW THEY MET: Through a dating website and then met in York in November 2006.
PROPOSAL: On a weekend trip to York in May 2008. Derek proposed at the Shambles, where the couple had their first kiss after they first met.
VENUE: The Roundthorn Country House Hotel, Penrith.
THEME: Traditional country garden with country and western, sage green colours.
BRIDE’S OUTFIT: A strapless metallic champagne couture dress by Essense of Australia with sweetheart neckline, lace embroidery and crystal accents, asymmetrical pleating throughout the bodice and skirt and dropped waist from White Rose Bridal, Lichfield.
GROOMSMEN: The groom’s brother David Gibson was best man. The bride’s brother Robbie Askew and groom’s best friend Barrie Scougal were ushers. The groom nephew Jack Gibson was pageboy.
They wore dark grey suits with ivory patterned waistcoats and sage green ruche neckties and handkerchief, from Young’s Hire of Suits You, Sheffield, Gateshead and Gretna.
BRIDESMAIDS: The bride’s sister Julie Askew was maid of honour and the bride’s friend Chloé Stott was bridesmaid. They wore aqua stripe dresses by Debut at Debenhams with cream sash and flower detail and cream diamante shrug from monsoon.
The groom’s niece Emily Gibson and bride’s niece Jessica Bradford were flower girls.
They wore Georgina white dresses with sage green floral detailing and cream sequin stitched flowers from Monsoon. A sage green shrug knitted by the bride’s mother Lynda Askew.
FLOWERS: The bride carried a tied posy of Akito and avalanche roses, lavender, flowering mint and bear grass from Vine and Roses, Penrith and rosemary from her late granddad’s plant.
TRANSPORT: Stacey’s Coaches, Carlisle to transport guests.
RECEPTION: The Roundthorn Country House Hotel for 100 guests for a wedding breakfast and buffet in the evening.
TABLE SETTINGS: A small bouquet of flowers in a square glass vase.
CAKE: A five-tier round cake in sage green colours with ivory lace detail and a hand made sugar peony, made by the bride, who owns Lavender Cakes, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.
FIRST DANCE: It’s Your Love, Tim McGraw.
ENTERTAINMENT: Andy Neen, ATN Roadshow, Carlisle.
HONEYMOON: Canada.
