It is over to you – does Cumbria want an underground nuclear dump?

Cumbrians have a huge decision to make this year. Its implications could be with us for the next 200,000 years. We are going to have to decide whether to allow Britain’s high-level radioactive waste to be buried deep underground at a site somewhere in our county.

Have your say

Yes West Cumbria is the appropiate place to store nuclear waste, I certainly do not want to see it stored anywhere near London or the South East.

No !!!!!!!!! It wasn't feasible 10years ago and isn't now. Do the right thing Knowles and say no.

Im an apprentice from workington my future will no doubt be shaped by the nuclear industry in this area. people must realise that there is little else in this area to support us economically. most people who do not support nuclear power in this area have most probably retired and do not care about careers anymore or have come from another part of the country and feel the scenery is the only thing matters.

It's already an overground dump so what's the difference?

you will all be told this is needed in cumbria,by authoritys and councils who will frighten locals with the fear of unemployment and lack of jobs, stop relying on the nuclear industry to create jobs, make the councils and MP's do their jobs and get alternate companys into the area, they are sitting on their backsides letting the nuclear industry solve the problem to create jobs for the locals,i oppose this because of that reason and because the scientific testing proves the area is unsuitable, send it south after all were all in this together arn't we, we are in this together mmm maybe not.

According to Stephen Hawking the world will not be habitable in 1000 years due to global warming or war anyway.

Don't kid yourselves about jobs and the rest. It'll end up just like Sellafield with loads of southern shandy drinkers moving to the area for the decent jobs. They might throw a bone to some of the locals and let them have jobs cleaning part of the site with a mop or something!

I was sorely tempted to vote for Milton Keynes but such is my admiration for the courage and patriotism of Mssrs Clarkson and Cameron, not forgetting Rebecca, Matthew and others who give their all for England; why not let CHIPPING NORTON have first refusal. It's far enough from Scotland to be protected from any invasion across the border when the Scots get independence but still want to come looking for their money.

VOTE FOR CHIPPING NORTON NOW!

You got away with 1957 Windscale, your sheep are now OK from 1986 Chernobyl, you want to pay to construct 3 nuclear power units and grid at Sellafield as well as a new Thorpe and MOX plants so why not a store for the nuclear waste? You've already spent £400m on researching and rejecting this store already but why shouldn't the NDA want to use your money again to try to beat you into submission?
Having all your eggs in one basket perhaps isn't the smartest thing to do but so what if the next accident is worse than Windscale and precludes the use of any of the above? To hell with the risk, it's jobs until it happens that counts and anyway it's the 3 council executive committees that will choose your children's fate - not your views given in any MRWS £1m consultation funded by you. Anyway the Cllr's need the expenses from attending the meetings more than you!
