Hundreds of people visited Workington’s first Urban Motor Show.

The event, organised by cnevents, part of CN Group which owns the Times & Star, saw West Cumbrian motor dealers bring the newest models to Workington town centre.

There was also entertainment and activities for all the family, but the stars of Saturday’s show were the cars.

They were provided by some of the most trusted names in the business – Border Cars, Dobies Peugeot and Vauxhall, both of Lillyhall, Stan Palmer Honda, of Cockermouth, and B and H Motors, of Whitehaven.

Stephen McCullough, business development director for CN Group, said: “It was an incredible success.

“The town centre was absolutely heaving and local businesses probably benefited as a result of the huge interest people showed in the cars and the extra visitors.

“The car dealers who were involved reported that a lot of people were booking test drives for Sunday, so people were looking to buy.”

The event was inspired partly by the success of a similar show in Whitehaven.

Mr McCullough added: “Bringing the cars to the people is a reversal of what has been done in the past. It seems to work well as there were a lot of healthy inquiries made about the cars being showcased.”

Dean Adams, 32, sales executive for the Vauxhall dealership, said: “The atmosphere was buzzing all day.

“We really hope it comes back to Workington next year because it was a great day for us and for the town.”

Ron Batty, dealer principal for B and H Motors, said: “We took a variety of cars down including the new Ibiza and spoke to quite a few people.”
