Whitehaven Rambling Club

WHITEHAVEN Rambling Club recently held the last Wednesday evening social event of the winter season.
Bill and Pat Stainton entertained a large audience with their audio-visual show “Music of the Mountains”, with wonderfully chosen music accompanied by slide images of mountains at home and abroad, in all seasons and captured in all moods.
The evening finished with a grand Easter raffle, organised by Janet Sunderland. The proceeds of this and also an official collection box made £200, which was donated to the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team.
Team member Chris Abbott was present to receive the cheque. He said they very much appreciated the Rambling Club’s support and gave a short talk to update everyone on recent rescue team activities.
Fortnightly all-day Sunday rambles with a choice of three routes continue throughout the year. Phone Pat Stainton on 812264.
Wednesday evening rambles of about two hours’ duration on the local fells are held from April through to September, when indoor meets begin again for the winter. Phone Margaret Jackson on 62339.
