Whitehaven Rambling Club

RECENTLY, 30 members set out on the club’s annual Spring walk into the Uldale Valley.
They were very fortunate in getting a day of beautiful sunshine, light breezes and good views.
Organised and led by Margaret Malkinson and Susan Dixon, the group started from Egremont, walked along farm lanes and then climbed high into the fir forest to the south of Dent. They then descended steeply into the valley to reach Uldale Farm.
This was the official lunch stop, with a booked meal of soup, sandwiches, delicious home baked cakes and welcome mugs of tea and coffee.
Before leaving, the club president Bill Stainton, thanked the family who run the farm (which lies on the official Wainwright coast to coast route) for their hospitality.
It was a great day for the walk, as weather-wise it was a borrowed day of good weather in the midst of weeks of heavy rain and strong winds.
Fortnightly Sunday rambles continue through to September, the club hold evening fell walks of about two hours duration on the local hills.
These start at 6.30pm and are led by Margaret Jackson. Phone 01946 62339 for more information.
