Whitehaven Flower Club

WE did not have a meeting at St Begh’s this month, instead we all went out for lunch to Armathwaite Hall for the 50th anniversary of the flower club.
Our chairman, Vivienne Postlethwaite, was there early to welcome members when they arrived.
A bus had been laid on to enable members to have a glass of wine if they wished to do so. We had a lovely relaxed meal and enjoyed the company of other members of clubs that had also come along to enjoy the celebration.
Our speaker was Pat Armstrong, she used to be a member of Whitehaven club before leaving the area. She had been involved with textiles and used to do quite a lot of sewing before she got involved with flowers. On display were various cards, wools, threads, petersham ribbon from the hat industry and also flowers because she is very much involved with them now within the north west area. Lots of photographs were taken throughout the day by Derek McGhee who had come along specially to do that particular job.
The day went very quickly and before we departed every member of the clubs that attended were presented with a lovely rose called Golden Finesse.
Later on in the year we also have a trip to Highgrove and are very much looking forward to that too.
