THE 40th birthday party in March was a very happy event with present members welcoming former members and members of WIs from the Esk group.
Some of our guests had travelled long distances to join us and there were good wishes from former members in Scotland, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Entertainment was provided by the Gilbert and Sullivan Singers and, as usual, a delicious supper had been provided for us all.
OUR president, Mary Stewart, welcomed 15 members and a guest to our February meeting.
After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and signed preparations for our 40th birthday party in March were discussed.
Mary had been trawling through the archives and had found the names of former members who could be contacted and invited to the party, together with members of neighbouring WIs in the Esk group.
There will be meetings with other groups in the village interested in organising celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The next meeting of our lunch club will be at the Victoria hotel in Drigg.
The speaker for the evening was Bill Myers, who gave us an eagerly- anticipated slide show and talk on ‘Shopping in Millom’ from the 1800s to the present day. Bill’s talk evoked many memories for our members who enjoyed reminiscing about the town and talking about the changes they had seen.
As usual Bill’s talk was excellent and very much enjoyed and this was echoed in the vote of thanks given by Catherine Winzor.
If you might be interested in joining our friendly group, contact Mary Stewart.
