PRESIDENT Mrs Matterson welcomed members to the July meeting of Santon Bridge WI on yet another wet day.
Our secretary, Mrs McElroy, read out a very interesting report from our Beckermet link delegate on the AGM at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Our guest speaker was John Sydney on “Crimestoppers”, the crime-fighting charity. This fulfils a role by which people can report suspicious things by telephoning 0800 555 111 anonymously and this leads to many crimes being solved.
The raffle was won by J McElroy.
The competition for a brooch was won by M Biggins, J Matterson and P Richardson.
PRESIDENT Mrs Matterson welcomed our members and those from other institutes to our June meeting. We all had a good chat.
Our speaker for the evening was Gaynor Davies, and her subject was “Poetry and Hats”. The hats had belonged to people who had greatly influenced her life. Her poems were well received as we could all relate to them.
We had a good raffle with many prizes. The monthly competition was “a purse”, winners were P Richardson, V Douglas and A Pooley. A buffet supper was enjoyed by all and in honour of our Queen’s Diamond Jubilee we all stood to sing Jerusalem and the National Anthem.
