Local History Society

THE Whitehaven and District Local History Society had their June outing at Wordsworth House, followed by a lovely lunch at the Trout Hotel.
Wordsworth House was very interesting and the gardens were amazing considering there were washed away with the floods in 2009. The plants were not covered by insurance so had to be replaced by other means. All in all it was very impressive. It had been raining quite hard and long for a couple of days before we were there and the river flowing past the garden was very high and fast.
Our next meeting will be on September 17. It will be our AGM, when we will appoint a new chairperson as Lynn is standing down. Thanks go to Lynn for all the hard work she has put in over the past few years.
Following our AGM there will be a presentation by Joseph Ritson and Aileen Rule on “The gentry and their waltzes”.
Any new or lapsed members are very welcome. We meet in the United Reformed Church rooms on the third Monday in the month at 7.30pm.
