BRENDA welcomed a guest to the February meeting, Rita Lee, who is hopefully going to become a new member to our club.
Next Brenda had a poem for us, based on our love of chocolate. Apologies were then given out and Helen reported the minutes of the last meeting.
A federation Jubilee Celebration is to be held on May 23 at the Greenhill Hotel for all those interested in attending. An invitation for four members to attend Woodend WI on May 10 at Bigrigg had been received and also one from Moresby WI to attend their 64th birthday on April 25.
Names were taken for a quizzical walk around Whitehaven.
We then welcomed our guest speaker, Bob Gatherer, who gave us a most interesting film show on flora and fauna. Bob takes pictures of flowers as he cycles along the cycletrack between Whitehaven and Frizington. He specialises in very close-up pictures of flowers which were so intriguing and absolutely beautiful. His variety and selection included many varieties of orchids, which we are very fortunate to have in our area, as well as our normal wild flowers, several species of fungi, berries and even included spectacular pictures of icicles and cobwebs on plants.
Joyce thanked Bob for an absolutely fascinating insight into our local flora and fauna.
Bob judged the competition for a flower ornament, which was won by Brenda McConnell and with second place going to Linda Ashworth. Brenda also won the raffle.
