Jazz out West – new spring arts programme launched

JAZZ singer Helen Barrett is first on the bill for the Arts Out West, West Cumbria rural touring scheme.

TEN- YEAR CAREER: Helen Barrett, jazz singer, returns to West Cumbria to perform

Its spring season starts on February 10 concerts by Helen who returns to the area after concerts in 2009.

She will perform a programme of jazz classics old and new, featuring songs made famous by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Coel Porter, Katie Melua, Norah Jones and Eva Cassidy.

Helen trained at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, and in a 10-year career has performed throughout the UK, Spain and New Zealand.

She has appeared both in plays and musicals, and in her own one-woman show The Lady Loves Jazz, in which she is accompanied by a professional pianist.

The show can be seen at The Hill Village Hall, near Millom, on Friday, February 11 at 7.30pm (tel 01229 773398 for tickets) and Muncaster Parish Hall, Ravenglass, on Sunday, February 13 at 7.30pm (01229 717656 for tickets).
