AFTER a busy summer with interesting group visits to Swarthmoor Hall, Senhouse Roman Museum, Isel Hall and Kelton Head, the South West Cumbria History and Archaeology Society is now gearing up for its winter programme of talks.
The Society is the West Cumbria region affiliated group of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological Society. All guests and visitors are welcome to attend the Society’s talks at their usual Saturday afternoon venue, the supper room at Egremont Market Hall.
They start at 2pm.
Oct 27 (at Florence Mine, Egremont): Jane Laskey, Senhouse Museum, Maryport on recent Roman fort excavations
Nov 17: Gabriel Blamires on the pre-historic trackways of Cumbria
Jan 19: John Lawson (ex-Manager, CORUS Workington) on the history and development of the ports and harbours of Cumbria
Feb 16: Ian Tyler, Keswick Mining Museum on the mines and minerals of Cumbria.
March 16: Sheena Gemmell on early Christianity in the north.
