LADIES of the Ehen & Weddicar Group of WIs enjoyed another good meeting.
Cleator WI hosted, with Eileen Toner in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and signed.
Eileen told us of the benefits of being in the WI, and how members past and present have been inspiring. Most of all it is important for us to enjoy the meeting and laugh together. Also present was Mrs Plank, a WI advisor, and Mrs Studdart, a new county trustee. They spoke to us about future county events, and how successful recent events have been.
Mrs Plank also said how important it was to ask for help if a WI was having problems with low membership and finding members to hold positions within the WI.
Our guest speaker was Gilly Fraser from Abbeytown, a former Border TV reporter, who spoke, with slides, on her wonderful adventure with Clydesdale horses. This was the migration of these beautiful animals from the Isle of Skye to Whicham Valley near Millom, a trek of 450 on the same horse. Her love of these animals was evident.
Pat Davies from Moresby WI gave a warm thank you to Gilly.
Another highlight of the night was Mrs Fleming of Keekle WI presenting Mrs Gregg with a basket of flowers from us all in the group, in thanks for many years of organising meetings and trips for us all to enjoy.
Most important was that she had been president of Cleator WI for over 40 years.
The competition for a coronation souvenir was won by Kathleen Cook, Beckermet WI, Barbara Corkan, Woodend WI, runner-up; the animal ornament competition was won by Maureen Boxall and Marian Anderson.
