BECKERMET WI hosted the Spring Group gathering at Bigrigg Village Hall; 62 ladies were present.
Angela Walls, president of Beckermet WI, welcomed us, and then we all joined in the singing of Jerusalem. After a short business meeting, Mrs Walls introduced Andy and Wulf from the Muncaster Owl Centre, who gave us a very detailed talk of how they work with and help different breeds of owl.
They brought with them Sparky, a lovely owl, who turned out to be the star of the show. Helen King of Lamplugh WI thanked our speakers. The two competitions, which were very well supported, were a royal souvenir and a card with a bird on the front.
The winners were Mrs Coleman and Mrs Jenkinson, Beckermet WI; Mrs Leech, Keekle and Padstow WI, and Mrs Telford, Moresby WI. The raffle was very well supported; ladies from all the WIs won prizes. As the evening had been so successful, the Owl Centre was given £100 to help with their work.
Mrs Hartley of Moresby WI thanked the Beckermet ladies for hosting the event, and the convenor for organising yet another happy WI get together.
