Why are pet cats banned in Iran?
Another day, another mystery to solve...
Our latest weapon against Iran - a cute cat. Picture by Big Tall Guy
A THROWAWAY line in The Guardian revealed to me that pet cats are banned in Iran. I can think of many 'evils' an Islamic republic might wish to wage war on - but cute little cuddly cats? C'mon guys! It seems pet cats - and dogs - are considered unclean and having one is too much like copying those horrible western cultures (it starts with having a cat and ends with you invading other countries). Worse, some Islamic states don't like pet dogs as they can be used as an excuse for men chatting up women. If the best chat-up line in Iran is "Oh, what a cute dog" then they need my expertise in more effective opening first-lines.
