The trivia report: Washington, yawning, white coats etc
IT must be post-festival fatigue. The office has been sharing trivia all morning.
And for those who have lives as sad as ours, here's the trivia round-up...
The statue of George Washington in Trafalgar Square stands on American soil. When the statue was proposed, it was pointed out that Washington swore he would never stand on British soil again. To get round this, soil from Virginia was used under the statue.
It's a myth that we yawn to get more oxygen. No one knows why we yawn
Scientists wear white coats because it shows up stains easily. And because it looks good.
Butchers wear blue and white striped aprons because the colour of the butchers guild emblem in the ninth century was blue and silver. Apprentices used to have narrow blue stripes, masters wide blue stripes.
