So what should a waiting room look like
Alan Cleaver has had a radical idea: actually make waiting rooms nice and welcoming places.
It's all very well criticising the design and decor of waiting rooms but if they shouldn't look like they normally do, what should they look like? My first thought was that it should look like your lounge at home - warm, comfortable and reassuring. But I was sat in Mr Pickwicks cafe in The Lanes, Carlisle, the other day and it struck me that it should look more like that. Indeed, why not merge the cafe at the hospital with the waiting room(s)? I'm not always a fan of background muzak but some music would be nice - hospital radio perhaps? Or let's do it properly and have a string quartet playing live in the corner of the waiting room! Another of my favourite resting places is the cafe in Waterstones bookshop in Carlisle so it occurs to me we could combine our waiting room with a cafe and a library - well stocked shelves with loads of wonderful books. Anyone have any other ideas? Please post below.
