THE Beacon’s Harbour Gallery will showcase the work of the Howgill Family Centre of Whitehaven in the new year.
It is a new exhibition called Howgill Families Create which goes on display from January 15 to February 13.
Since it was established in 1977, this centre has been supporting families in West Cumbria through activities, home support and community outreach projects.
The three artists who work at the centre, Janice Murray, Becky Moody and Helen Morgan, will be showcasing their artistic responses to the families with whom they work, alongside work created by children and their families.
“The Howgill Arts team is delighted to have the opportunity to bring to The Beacon the amazing work done by the families, staff and volunteers at the Howgill Family Centre. We hope the exhibition will provide a fun, interactive experience that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages, whilst highlighting the importance of our work within the local community”, said Janice Murray.
From installation pieces and acrylic; to textile art and 100s of family shoeboxes, this exhibition promises to be a delightful feast of colour whilst also showcasing the vast range of services that the Howgill Centre offers to West Cumbrian families.
“It will look at how the organisation has developed over its 33-year history and how it will continue to benefit the communities of West Cumbria into the future.”
Charlotte Stead, The Beacon’s curator, said “The Beacon prides itself on offering a varied programme of exhibitions throughout the year.
“Community exhibitions like this are extremely important to us”.
Entry to the exhibition is free.
