PRESIDENT Angela Walls welcomed members and guests to the June meeting.
The weather was kind for the village sports day where we had a successful afternoon, having a tombola and a cake stall.
The outing this year is to be to Kendal on Monday, September 17. This is open to anyone, so if you are interested get in touch with Angela Walls.
A date for your diary — we will be hosting a coffee evening on Tuesday, October 23, and entertainment will be provided by Mrs Allison from Ireby, on the keyboard.
“Digging up the past” was the title of a talk, supported by a photo presentation given by Tony Calvin. He told of his rich pickings from excavations etc mostly of local bottles and flagons together with a piece of Whitehaven Pottery which unfortunately was damaged. On show were many exhibits from his collection. Members were astounded by the number of potteries, breweries and ale houses in bygone Whitehaven. He was thanked by Doreen Head.
The competition for an item “old and local” was won by Doreen Head, 2 Mary Hilton; 3 Elsie Jenkinson.
