THE programme for the 24th Lake District Summer Music Festival has been unveiled.

But it’s also a summer school attracting 175 young musicians from 19 countries. During the festival there will be a number of master classes.
Venues stretch from Theatre by the Lake at Keswick, to Ambleside Parish Church, Carver Church Windermere, St Martin’s Bowness, Kirkby Lonsdale Parish Church and many more.
It all begins on Friday, August 1 with a gala opening at Coronation Hall, Ulverston. The Goldberg Ensemble celebrate English music for strings wih works by Handel, Elgar, Britten and others.
And it all comes to a close on Sunday, August 17 with the world premiere of a play by Jessica Duchen about the composer Messiaen. It features the work of the composer including a recently recovered ‘lost’ work, Fantaisie pour violon et piano.
