Top brass helps RNLI

ONE of the world’s leading brass bands is to perform a charity concert in Whitehaven Civic Hall.

Foden’s Richardson Brass Brand comes to town on Saturday, June 21 (7.30pm start), and all the proceeds from the concert will go to the St Bees RNLI Lifeboat Appeal.

Since they were formed in 1990, Fodens have maintained their position as one of the top bands in the world.

They were crowned All England Master Champions in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995 and 2002, and they have won numerous awards in Europe and the United States.

And 2007 was a particularly successful year for the band with victory at the North West Area Championship for a record breaking 14th time, being crowned the International Master Champions, and a victory at the Tameside Whit Friday March Contest for a sixth consecutive year.

Tickets, priced £12, are available from Helen Reid (01946 821320 or 07891862547) or Diane Starkie (01946 65267 or 07763784257).

St Bees RNLI needs to raise £150,000 to buy the Atlantic 85 lifeboat and train crews to use it.
