Lad and dad show off their art work

A FATHER and son are exhibiting their art work at Sellafield Visitors’ Centre.

The exhibition is entitled Begin 2 and it runs from February 25 until March 28.

It will display a selection of abstract paintings and drawings by Anthony Pendlebury and his son Nathan.

They have exhibited nationally and internationally, but here the artists are exhibiting together for only the second time.

The work on show is a mixture of painting, drawing and photography, ranging from large textured abstracts, inspired by nature, to bold graphic abstract photography, with a very urban edge.

Anthony is largely self-taught but began to paint in the 1960s whilst studying art in Bolton. He was hugely encouraged and inspired by his father Eric. Since then he has gone on to show his work in a number of locations in Cumbria and Liverpool. He is now semi-retired and based in Whitehaven.

He prefers to paint, both on paper and canvas. His art is almost always abstract, and he uses mixed medium in his work. He said: “I am primarily concerned with producing original paintings on canvas and paper. My paintings look toward the human condition taking influences from the likes of Miro, Picasso, and Corazon. I don't like to stand still with my painting and am always striving toward new things to do and experiment within my image making. I hope that my paintings offer texture, mood, and a sense of aesthetic through graphic mark making.

Nathan studied art at Warrington Collegiate Institute and also a Liverpool John Moore’s University and lives in Liverpool.

Nathan said: “My painting, drawing and photography relates to the presence of man within an urban environment, producing associations without being direct in representational or figurative terms. I like to use a variety of materials in my drawings and paintings, such as charcoal, graphite, ink, acrylic and aerosol paint.”
