Film, drama and music for all

A PACKED season of entertainment for all age groups is on offer in Rosehill Theatre’s new programme of events.
There will be films, drama, dance and a wide variety of music including classical, folk and jazz.
The film season includes the starting up of a new Film Club which includes newsletters, discussions and cinema suppers and lunches.
There will be 11 varied films including Brief Encounter, A Passage to India and recent releases include The Duchess – starring Kiera Knightly, Death Dyfying Acts based on the life of Houdini and The Italian Job starring Michael Caine.
Bringing the season to a close on December 9 and 10, it will be The Tigger Movie.
Drama includes Two, a witty viewing of a northern pub and Oh What a Lovely War on October 25, by The Theatre Workshop. There will also be The Bible – The Complete Word of God, presented by The Reduced Shakespeare Company.
The Malcolm Dowler 50th Birthday Concert on October 4 promises to be an entertaining evening, with proceeds going to Rosehill Theatre and the NSPCC.
Children’s entertainment will feature Dr Nose Travels Through Time on September 20, suitable for ages four to 11 and The Big Ugly Monster on October 26, for all ages.
On December 7, there will be Professor Christmas Bumm’s Storey Machine, for ages five to 12.
Music includes Mercury, The Ultimate Queen Experience, on Friday, September 12; five-piece female folk group The Poozies on Saturday, September 13 and Tipitina, a new young rhythm and blues band, on Thursday, September 18.
For classical music fans, the season begins on Friday, October 3 with Stephen Hough on piano and finishing on December 5 with The Dufay Collective and their Music for a Medieval Christmas.
And Christmas would not be Christmas without the traditional pantomime which this year is Cinderella, by Rosehill Youth Theatre.
It is being performed from Friday, December 19 to Sunday, December 21.
Roshill’s director, Richard Elder, said: “I am delighted to be joining Rosehill in time for this next season.
“We’re entering exciting times here at Rosehill, as we prepare to bid for a major refurbishment and re-establishing the venue at the centre of the West Cumbrian community.
“The project has received welcome support from a range of potential funders.
“They see the strategic importance of Rosehill and the opportunity to create an arts hub for West Cumbria. We are preparing for a major new beginning,” he added.
