Rehearsals start in landmark year for choirs

REHEARSALS for the new season of what promises to be a landmark 40th year in the history of the West Cumberland Choral Society, starts soon.
It begins on Thursday, September 4.
The Youth Choirs are moving to St Benedict’s Catholic High School, Red Lonning. The Junior Choir begins at 5.30pm and the Intermediate Choir at 6.30pm.
They will be under a new conductor as Claire Hume takes up the baton.
Aileen Rule and Helen Bushby will accompany the choirs in a variety of concerts.
The Adult Choir will continue to rehearse at St Begh’s Junior School, Coach Road, at 7.30pm.
Concerts planned are Handel's Messiah, in St Bees Priory, on November 20; a Christmas Celebration, in St James’ Church, on Saturday, December 6 and the finale to the season will be a gala concert.
This takes place in St James’ Church, Whitehaven, on Saturday, March 28, featuring internationally renowned and locally born soprano, Joan Rodgers along with soloists from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Copeland Sinfonia Orchestra.
Works for this concert are the Overture from Mozart's Magic Flute, Mozart's Requiem and Poulenc's Gloria.
