Rocking at White Mare for charity
Last updated 16:07, Wednesday, 20 August 2008
OVER 20 bands are playing at a two-day rock festival at the White Mare, Beckermet.
Both local bands and ones from elsewhere will be playing on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31.
Organisers are hoping to raise in the region of £3,000-£5,000 for Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.
The event was started last year as a fund-raiser for the rescue team.
It featured about eight bands over one day and was such a success that it has been extended for this year.
Manager at the White Mare, Philip Ward, said: “We raised £1,500 for the team last year and it was a great success. We decided to extend it and have a proper rock festival this year.”
There will be a full stage set up, a marquee and there will also be a beer festival.
The festival will run from 12.30pm until 9pm on each day.
“All the bands are giving their time up free of charge,” said Philip. “We see it as a way of giving something back to the community as well,” he added.
Performing will be Krashed, Jiezuberband, Barking at Butterflies, Oven, Kalmer, Psycho Babe, GO, Seance, Adam Amor, Spud, Gavin McKew, Peski Kings, Obrigado, Skinwalker, The Scabs, Full Tilt, Deadmans Jacket, Last In Line, Ruffkut and Adam and Luke.
Entrance is free with optional donations to the mountain rescue team.
