Music for all as SASRA unveils new programme

A NEW season of music starts next month in the SASRA Music and Arts programme.
And there’s plenty on offer to suit a wide audience and all concerts take place mainly in Egremont.
Starting the entertainment off, on September 12, will be The Dave Black Jazz Quintet, at Egremont Parish Church Hall, 8pm.
He has worked with many of the top names from the world of jazz including Joe Lovano, Jerry Bergonzi and Dave Liebman.
He mainly plays in a swing/bop style performing standard songs and ballads as well as some original compositions and Latin-based numbers with the acoustic quintet.
It will be their first time in West Cumbria. On trumpet will be Paul Eshelby, who featured as a soloist with the BBC Big Band.
On October 10 the London Mozart Players will perform in Egremont Market Hall, at 8pm.
They were the UK's first chamber orchestra and are regarded as one of the finest ensembles, bringing together musicians from home and abroad.
Then on November 7 at the Sellafield Visitors’ Centre, The Clerks’ Group perform.
The group, which specialises in the Flemish repertoire, has performed extensively in the UK and Europe as well as the United States this year.
They made their Proms debut in the Royal Albert Hall.
On November 28, Brass Mark 5 from the Royal Northern College, Manchester, will play at Egremont Parish Church Hall and then on January 19, there will be a visit from the Chetham’s Music School touring ensemble and soloists, at Egremont Parish Church Hall, 8pm. It is the largest music school in the UK, based in Manchester.
On February 13, the Navarra String Quartet returns to the area to perform at Egremont Parish Church Hall, at 8pm.
It will feature Xander Van Vliet (violin), Marije Ploemacher (violin), Simone van der Giessen (viola) and Nathaniel Boyd (cello).
Their programme includes Haydn Op.33/6; Mendelssohn, Op.13 and Shostakovich No.9.
The quartet has performed all over the world and has broadcast for BBC Radio 3.
Finally, on March 20, The Plane-Dukes-Rahman Trio perform at Egremont Parish Church Hall, 8pm. It features Robert Plane on clarinet, Philip Dukes, on viola and Sophia Rahman, on piano.
Their programme includes Brahms’ Viola Sonata in E flat.
They have given recitals all over the world and broadcast many times on BBC Radio 3.
