Windscale end disappointing season with a home defeat

WINDSCALE’S disappointing season came to an end on Saturday with a home defeat against high-flying Wolviston.
Short of players, the hosts went a goal down inside the first five minutes when Glen Smith found himself in space to slot past goalkeeper James Dolan.
After the early setback, Windscale began to get into the game and enjoy a fair share of possession, but Andrew McDonald’s effort wide of the mark was the best they could muster.
A minute before the break, Windscale had a good shout for a penalty turned down when Joe Shepherd appeared to be bundled down but it wasn’t given.
Wolviston doubled their lead midway through the second half when Luke Bennington latched on to a long ball and slid the ball past Dolan.
The third came shortly after when the home side failed to clear a bouncing ball properly and Stephen Kilpatrick popped up to head home.
Again, the ever-willing McDonald had Windscale’s best opportunity of the half but his glancing header from a corner flashed the wrong side of the post and the final whistle came as somewhat of a relief for the tired home side.
Windscale finished the season one place off the bottom of the league.
They finsished with 25 points from their 36 games, seven points clear of bottom placed Silksworth Community.
