Duffett century not enough for Cleator

AUSTRALIAN professional Paul Duffett scored an unbeaten century but wasn’t able to keep Cleator at the top of the Premier Division.

At Haverigg, Cleator had to settle for nine points from a drawn game – but Duffett almost got them home.

He had made 128 not out when the Cleator innings closed on 228-5 – just eight runs short of victory.

Cleator’s dropped points meant that Millom’s six-wicket win at Whitehaven put them clear at the top.

Steve Holliday (46no) and professional Saliva Saman (36) were the leading batsmen for Whitehaven but they could only manage 153-9. The visitors eased home on 154-4.

Cleator Seconds were overwhelmed in their home game against Lindal Moor, and Egremont (157) had a good victory, beating Vickerstown (113) by 44 runs at Gillfoot Park.

In the Higson Cup, Haverigg beat Cockermouth in a bowl-off and Millom beat Penrith by five wickets

In Division Two, Whitehaven Seconds were dismissed for 68 by Millom, who quickly reached their target.

Windscale continued their good form by comfortably overcoming Harcoat Park Seconds at home.

Seascale also continued their excellent start with some impressive batting against Duddon Seconds.

The undoubted star of the show was 16-year-old Daniel Lee, who scored an unbelievable 207 not out.

Seascale dismissed Duddon for 125, and they also continued their league form into the cup, qualifying for the quarter-final of the Vigodny Cup at the expense of Ulverston Reserves.

Also in the Vigodny Cup, Whitehaven Seconds took the scalp of holders Haverigg.

In the Cockspur Cup first round, Cleator posted 203-9 in 45 overs to beat Fleetwood & Hesketh.
