JOIN staff from Wild Ennerdale and Cumbria Farm Network for a guided walk along Smithy Beck route and lakeshore.

It takes place on Thursday, May 29 from 11am until 4pm.

You will be able to hear about the Wild Ennerdale project and Cumbria Farm Network, with focus on farming and woodland management.

The walk is easy/moderate and distance is about six miles. The start and finish point is Bowness Knott Forestry Commission car park. Take along walking boots, waterproofs and packed lunch. To book a place telephone 01946 816940.

AMNESTY International West Cumbria is holding a Walk for Life from Whitehaven to St Bees and back again. It takes place on May 17, at 10am from the Market Place.

WHITEHAVEN’S workhouses is the subject for the next meeting of the Lamplugh and District Heritage Society.

The talk will be given by Robert Baxter and it takes place on Thursday, May 22, in the Lamplugh WI Hall, at 7.30pm.

THORNHILL’S Tenants’ and Residents’ Association is holding its Annual General Meeting on May 22, at 7pm, in the Thornhill Social Club.

A new secretary, chairman and treasurer is expected to be elected. All welcome.

THE Russian State Symphony Orchestra is playing at the Sands Centre on Saturday, May 24, at 7.30pm.

They are returning with a mixed Russian programme conducted by Mark Gorenstein.

The concert includes Mussorgsky’s atmospheric Night on a Bare Mountain and Sergei Girshenko’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2. In the second half the orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s rarely performed The Seasons, arranged by Aleksandr Gauk, and ends with Shostakovich’s exuberant Symphony No.9.
